Our animals need your help!

Figure 1: Fergus showing the extent of her skin conditions at such a young age

Like so many animals that come into our care, mum Fiona and kittens Fergus, Debbie and Lillian were found abandoned in some woodland at only a few days old.

Mum was fragile, incredibly unwell with a very high temperature and had great difficulty breathing on top of having 3 beautiful kittens to care for.

Once they were in the safe hands of St Francis Animal Welfare, they received immediate veterinary treatment and a warm safe environment. After initial stabilisation and assessment, it was suspected that Fiona had cat flu.

Cat flu is a virus that can be easily avoided through regular vaccinations of kittens and adult cats and it is possible that Fiona never received her initial vaccinations, leading  to the condition she was found in.

Unfortunately as Fiona was so unwell, the kittens also unavoidably contracted the disease, as they were in direct contact with their infected Mum.

This resulted in making the kittens susceptible to other respiratory issues and skin diseases due to a weakened immune system.

These poor kittens have experienced all of this already in their short lives and have been continually treated with multiple courses of eye drops, antibiotics and skin treatments alongside a high level of care.

Due to their condition at such a young age, it is likely that they will be prone to respiratory infections throughout their lives, but with the right support they will lead long and fulfilled lives thanks to the care from St Francis and our Vets.

But we need your help! Fiona and her kittens are just one of the 17 litters we have rescued this year.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the current cost of living crisis have both badly affected the financial sustainability of St Francis Animal Welfare. Our shelter costs £500 per day to run and therefore donating just £3 per month can go towards essentials like utilities, food and medication and will ensure we can continue to provide much needed care for those animals in need.

Please help ensure we can continue to rescue more abandoned animals like Fiona and her babies by donating just £3 per month.

Some Good News!

Fiona and her kittens were placed into foster to give them the undivided attention they needed to recover.

Through this Fiona has found her forever home and will receive all the love and care she deserves.

Your continued support will make a difference!

Thank you

Help Keep Our Shelter Animals Warm This Winter!

More animals than ever need our help and as a small, independently run charity that receives no government support or funding, we rely solely on donations and fundraising activities to be able to operate.
Food, medicine and essential vet bills required to nurse our animals back to health take up the majority of these funds.
However, as we approach the cold winter months we have had to replace our broken boiler, to ensure our animals also remain warm and safe this winter.
Anything you can offer will be greatly received and go along way to helping the animals. Please follow this link to our Go Fund Me page.
